Oral Conscious Sedation

One of the types of sedation we may recommend for your child is oral conscious sedation. This simple sedative is quick and comfortable to use — your child will simply take a small drink of prescribed medicine and spend some time in our beanbag room until they are drowsy. They will then be able to receive their care in comfort.

Oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation that we may recommend to ensure that your child has a comfortable experience each time they visit our office. Administered as an oral medication, oral sedation is simple and easy to use. Because oral sedation is a form of conscious sedation, your child will remain awake during their treatment, but they will feel more relaxed and at ease. There are many other benefits to sedation dentistry, including:

  • Oral sedation is quick and easy to use.
  • It produces the necessary amnesic effect for a comfortable experience.
  • Oral sedation typically costs less than other forms of sedation.

If you and our pediatric dentists determine that oral sedation is right for your child, they will be prescribed a medication that will help them relax. You will be given instructions of when before their scheduled appointment medication should be taken; be certain to follow all specific directions. When you and your child arrive at our office, your child will be awake but extremely relaxed. They may feel drowsy, and it is not unusual for children to not remember the details of their appointment.
